Thieves using new methods to break in
Local police are offering free home security surveys and letterbox protectors in an bid to crackdown on burglaries in the area.
Paul Ambridge from Avenue Gardens has written on the W3 forum about recently being the victim of such a crime. He says:
'' Our burglary was probably by someone opening our front door yale lock by using a wire through the letterbox. So the lesson is to always mortice lock a front door. We thought that an active burglar alarm and security lights would be secure and allow us an unlocked fire exit if needed - well not any longer. Our house is now more like Fort Knox!''
Sergeant Danny Williams of the South Acton Safer Neighbourhood Team says local residents who want advice about household security should get in contact.
''' We offer free home security surveys and we are also able to supply letterbox protectors from the Council free of charge. If anyone would like more information then please contact the team on 0208-649-3574 or by e-mail: southacton.snt@met.police.uk ''
