The woman killed in Park Royal this Sunday (25 June) has been named as 77-year-old Ann Murphy.
She was found dead in her home on Harold Road by officers who enter the property shortly after 8.49pm after neighbours had called to express concerns for her welfare.
A postmortem held on Tuesday determined the cause of death to be a head injury.
Her family has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
There was widespread shock on her road where she was well-known to her neighbours who described her as ‘a lovely woman’. Flowers have been left outside her home as a tribute.
A 74-year-old man, who was known to Ann, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He was taken to hospital due to concerns for his health and he remains there currently.
Detectives say that they are continuing to piece together the circumstances leading up to her death and enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Ann during this difficult time.
“Our investigation is progressing and I would like to reassure members of the community that colleagues from the Specialist Crime Command are working around the clock to establish the circumstances surrounding Ann’s death.
“We have made one arrest and are not looking for anyone else at this time in relation to these investigations.
“We would reiterate our appeal for anyone with any information to come forward and speak with officers. I also encourage anyone with concerns to speak with officers on patrol or contact their neighbourhood policing team.”
