Police Recover Multiple Machetes in South Acton
Local team steps up operations against violent crime and drug dealing

South Acton’s Safer Neighbourhood Team has carried out a series of high-impact operations over the past fortnight, recovering multiple machetes, making arrests and seizing vehicles as part of a growing effort to tackle violent crime, drug activity and anti-social behaviour across the ward.
The most serious incident came after a police pursuit in the Mill Hill Road area, where officers chased a moped rider who attempted to flee. Following a foot pursuit, the suspect was detained on Woodlands Avenue and found to be carrying a machete. Police say the arrest highlights the continuing challenge of weapon-carrying among a small number of offenders operating in and around South Acton.
Just days later, officers forced entry into a vehicle on Avenue Road after intelligence suggested it was linked to criminal activity. Inside, they recovered multiple machetes and other illegal items, prompting an ongoing investigation into those involved. Residents who witnessed the operation saw officers remove the weapons from the vehicle, underscoring the seriousness of the threat posed by large blades circulating within the area.
The discovery of several machetes in separate incidents within a short period has reinforced concerns about the presence of dangerous weapons in local offending. Police say these seizures are part of a wider strategy to disrupt violent crime, remove weapons from the streets and prevent escalation.
Alongside the weapons recoveries, officers seized another vehicle on Avenue Road as part of anti-social behaviour enforcement, and yesterday removed a high-powered motorcycle being ridden anti-socially through Acton Park under Section 59 powers.
The South Acton team says these incidents represent only a fraction of the work taking place behind the scenes. Officers continue to run intelligence-led operations, manage case files and conduct investigations that may not be visible to the public but are central to reducing crime and keeping residents safe.
In a message to the community, Police Constable Mohammad Naja acknowledged that August had brought staffing pressures due to officers being diverted to operations across the wider West Area policing command, limiting the team’s time on the ward. However, he stressed that their commitment to South Acton “remains unchanged”, promising continued visibility, engagement and more regular updates.
