Over £48m to build more homes in Ealing
Ealing Council and seven of its Housing Association partnncil Seers have secured funding from the Housing Corporation and the Government Office for London of over £48m to start work over the next two years on building and improving more than 700 new affordable homes across the borough.
" This is really welcome news from the Housing Corporation," said Cllr Jasbir Annad, cabinet member for housing improvement. "The council has been lobbying central government hard for this funding and now our work has paid off. It will mean a real step forward in us and our partners being able to fulfil our ambition of having more affordable and quality built homes in Ealing."
The funding will be for a mixture of schemes combining rented properties for people who urgently need accommodation, through to shared ownership schemes for key workers.
Over £16m of the funding is going to help continue the redevelopment and refurbishment of the South Acton estate and over £2.6m will be spent on improvements to the Sunningdale estate.
"Like
most other London boroughs we've got a lot of residents and employees
who desperately need a permanent home, but can't afford either the high
private rents or to get onto the property ladder," added Cllr Anand.
"Now that these schemes have financial backing and can get off the
ground, hopefully there will be more people who will be able to call Ealing
their home."
