Marcos D'Cruze and Guarro making an big impact
Local singer/sonwriter Marcos D'Cruze along with his band Guarro are starting to attract attention beyond the Acton area for their distinctive brand of music.
Marcos loves Acton so much that Guarro filmed the video to their latest record "Before I Die" in Acton including fellow Actonian, Will Mellor, the star of Two Pints of Lager actor, local store keepers, friends at his local Post Office and Barbers Classix in Churchfield Rd. This video has spawned the website www.iloveyouthankyou.com
Guarro (meaning “filthy” or “pig” in Spanish) was formed when Acton born and bred Marcos D’Cruze asked himself this question: What would happen if he tried to combine his skill as a flamenco guitarist with rock ‘n roll?
The result was a new kind of rock 'n roll which combined the ferocity of flamenco with the power of rock. After much searching, Marcos finally found the players brave (and good) enough to embark on this new music with him - Huw Davies on lead guitar, Bret Vanderberg on bass, and Lee Morris on drums. D'Cruze himself plays rhythm, lead, bass and percussion, all on one Spanish guitar.
They’ve gigged around London in all the usual venues including Bush Hall, Half Moon Putney, The Bull & Gate, Islington Carling Academy and the Hope and Anchor, all the while building up a cult following, with fans as diverse as Jeff Wayne, KT Tunstall, Ewan McGregor and Jack Good. But, like The Libertines and The Others, they’ve also embraced the new gigging ethic of 'taking it to the people, playing sweaty shows in fans’ front rooms' as well as venues such as a Chinese restaurant in Acton.
