Love Christmas, Hate Waste?

Take up the winter reduce, reuse, recycling challenge!

Hounslow Council and the West London Waste Authority (WLWA) are challenging local residents to take up a festive 10-week challenge to go green this winter.

Residents are being asked to sign up to a 10 week regime from mid-November to mid-January, with themed weeks and plenty of support to help them through the two month challenge.

Cllr Colin Ellar, Hounslow’s cabinet member for environment, said:

“We are looking for people to challenge themselves to Love Christmas and Hate Waste this festive season.

“From preparation and festivities through to relaxing in January, WLWA will provide ideas, tips and support each week to help you get the most from your time, money and the holidays, with little or no increase in the amount of rubbish that goes in your bin.

“Covering everything from making the most of store cupboard staples and recycling presents to festive foods and party clothes without the party price tag, there are lots of simple things that anyone can do to reduce the amount of waste they throw away.

“This 10-week challenge is a great opportunity for everyone to do their bit for the environment while also being kind on your pocket and making the most of the festive season, and I hope that many Hounslow residents sign up.”

Information packs will be sent out to everyone who signs up, with extra support provided to anyone who takes this challenge and writes about their progress on the WLWA facebook page and website.
