Brompton Bicycle Ltd this week played host to Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon. George Osborne MP.

As the UK’s largest bicycle manufacturer, Brompton’s factory in West London was deemed an ideal venue to discuss the growth figures released by the Office for National Statistics earlier in the day.

George OsborneThe Chancellor was greeted by Sales & Marketing Director Emerson Roberts at 09:30, when production was already in full swing. After changing into safety shoes, Mr Osborne was shown around the various sections of the factory, including Engineering and Brazing, Stores, Pre-Assembly, and Assembly.

Brompton has experienced high levels of growth in recent years, both domestically and internationally. Exports have been particularly strong, accounting for 75% of output over the last 3 months; Bromptons are distributed to 38 markets around the world.

Emerson said of the visit: “We are always happy to welcome ministers to the factory, and pleased that our work here in West London attracts a lot of positive attention. These are tough times for the global economy, but companies like Brompton show that it is possible to exploit opportunities in any climate, in our case by focusing on quality and by addressing imaginatively the needs of consumers.”
