Golden Mile commuters to get cash for car sharing...

New scheme to encourage fewer cars along Brentford's A4

New scheme A4 Car Share has recently been set up for people working in the Golden Mile area of West London, with the aim of reducing congestion along the A4/M4 corridor.

By signing up to A4 Car Share, users can either post an offer as a car driver or browse the car sharing offers posted by drivers. A powerful system identifies potential matches based on where people live and their preferences, in terms of travel time, route, and even music tastes. A simple email exchange then typically follows and an environmentally-friendly car share is born. Participants often either share the driving or the parking/fuel costs.

To encourage car commuters to sign up and share their journeys, a cash reward scheme has been setup to reward drivers for car sharing. This innovative approach blends the idea of car sharing with tangible incentives to promote sustainable transport choices by encouraging car drivers to make better use of empty seats. A4 Car Share members will be given cash rewards each time they log a car share journey. ‘Saving money, meeting new people and helping the environment are all motivating factors to car share, but offering the chance also to be rewarded is a very powerful incentive to get involved,’ explains Tom Murray Willis, Transport Consultant at Contemporary Transport.

The new cash reward scheme will be available from February, allowing members who sign up to benefit from shared journeys. Those who register with A4 Car Share before 28th February will enter a prize draw to win a month of free fuel.

A4 Car Share is managed by the Golden Mile Transport Group – a partnership of London Borough of Hounslow, West London Business and WestTrans – supported by Transport for London.
