A community meeting is to be held to discuss possible future uses of the disused railway embankment between Commerce Road and Field Lane.

It has been organised by Brentford Voice which has received a grant from Hounslow Council to carry out a feasibility study.

The meeting takes place on Tuesday 10 January at 7pm on Holiday Inn on Commerce Road.

The railway line used to link the rail network with the docks at Brentford and the former Brentford Station on London Road has now been converted into a car repair garage. Next to it is a former rail bridge abutment which shows where trains crossed over the road.

Geoff Marshall’s series of videos on London’s Lost Railways has an episode on this rail line which looks at the local clues to its existence more closely.

Martin Case, Chair, Brentford Voice said, “Although Brentford Voice would be delighted to steer this project, decisions on the future of the site belong to our entire community. Before we commit funds to the project, we want to ensure that there is a consensus that this is a worthwhile project.

“At the meeting, we will describe the background to the project and point to some of the challenges and opportunities. We certainly do not envisage any housing or commercial development, and the emphasis will be upon the site's value as a community and educational resource and as an ecological haven. The embankment is also an important part of Brentford’s heritage, and potentially it has great value as a green open space in Brentford, particularly in the light of great development pressures for new homes.

“However, much more importantly, we would like to hear your views. Do you have any concerns? Does the project excite you? Do you have any ideas for the use of the embankment?“
