Carpetright, the UK-based flooring retailer, has announced the closure of over 200 of its stores including the one in Brentford on the Great West Trading Estate by the A4.

The store opened in 1997 when the business was expanding rapidly in the area and appears on a list released by PwC of locations to close. Other stores in west London set to shut include Ealing and Hammersmith.

Overall, the closures will lead to the loss of 1,000 jobs with the remaining business, of 54 stores and two warehouses as well as the Carpet Right brand, being sold to its competitor Tapi.

Carpetright has been experiencing declining sales and financial losses, which severely impacted its profitability. The tough retail environment and reduced consumer spending on home improvement projects contributed to this downturn.

The company entered into a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), a restructuring process used to help struggling businesses manage debt. As part of the CVA, PWC proposed the closure of underperforming stores to cut costs.

The store closures are expected to take place over the next few days.
