Conmen Unsuccessful in Green Dragon Lane

Bogus workmen try to dupe 79 year old man

Police are looking for two men who attempted to steal from an elderly man at his home on Green Dragon Lane on 14th May at 12.30pm

The 79-year-old male, opened his door to a man who stated he needed to turn off his water as a flat in the block was flooded and believed there was a leak in the victim’s flat. The man allowed him into his flat, and began checking cupboards to find the leak. Whilst he was doing this he saw that another man has entered the flat and walked into the living room.

Both men were asked to leave and they did, the householder then found that his watch and CD player in the lounge had been moved. He noticed that the table drawers in his office had been opened and his bank statements and pension book had been taken out and placed on the tabletop. In conmen appear to have left empty-handed.

Both men were white males aged around 24 years old. The first is 5’10”, and wore a white shirt with black vertical stripes, long baggy trousers. He had short dark hair and an English accent.

The second is 6’0” of slim build, and wore black shirt, black trousers. He had short dark hair and an English accent.

DI Jeff Minns said, “ No property was stolen, but what is important here is the means by which the suspects got into the flat. Always be very aware when strangers start telling you have a leak. Occupiers will normally be the first to know, not strangers”!
