A 43-year-old man from the Boston Manor has denied a charge of attempted murder at the Old Bailey.

Mark Brazant, of Windmill Road, which is on the border of the Brentford and Ealing areas, was absent from a pre-trial hearing on 14 April because he was unwell. The court was told he denies intending to kill the woman he attacked.

On Monday 30 December at around 5.30pm he approached 36-year-old Josephine Conlon from behind as she was walking with her child in a pushchair in Streatham. He then stabbed her three times in the face. Her physical wounds were described by the police as not life-threatening or life-changing although one of the gashes narrowly missed her jugular vein.

Mr Brazant later handed himself in and was charged on Thursday, 2 January with attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a pointed/bladed article.

His barrister told the court that his client’s defence would be that he did not have ‘the requisite intent.’

Mrs Conlon, who attended Durham and Kingston universities was married in 2016 and had previously worked for a communications agency.

A trial date has been set for 22 June and Mr Brazant has been remanded in custody in the meantime.
