Brentford Fan Arrested After Alleged Sexual Assault

A 49-year-old Brentford supporter from Staines has been arrested following a report of a sexual assault on London Overground.
Eve De Haan wrote about her claims in an article in the Guardian saying in her report that she had been elbowed in the face, sexually assaulted and verbally abused.
The Tottenham season ticket holder was on the train returning home after her team’s 3-1 victory against Brentford on 21 September.
She says she thought the contact had been accidental but when she asked the man to stop ‘all hell broke loose’ and she was subjected to ‘cruel and misogynistic’ abuse with the incident being filmed by Brentford fans.
She reported the incident to a member of staff at Seven Sisters station and she says they just shrugged but British Transport Police officers at the station heard her report and unsuccessfully tried to prevent a Victoria line train, which the man had believed to have boarded, departing.
TfL said, “We are very sorry that the woman concerned did not receive the help that she needed. We are supporting the police with their investigation and are also looking into how this was handled by staff.”
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “I can confirm a 49-year-old man from Staines-upon-Thames was arrested and has been released on bail.”
A spokesperson for Brentford said the club “understand that a suspect has been arrested in connection with this incident and is now under police investigation. The club will provide full support to the authorities throughout this process and will consider the findings before taking any action in line with our club sanctions policy”.
