Plans for a Brentford Mosaic Make Progress

A community project to create a mosaic to celebrate Brentford kicked off this Saturday (4 February) with local people attending a workshop to develop designs.

The Brentford Art Mosaic Project is organised by Hounslow Council’s Digital Dock on the High Street. Local businesses and residents of all ages were invited to the event to participate in creating piece of public artwork.

The design will focus on the past and present of Brentford, from Syon House, Pocahontas, Shakespeare, and much more.

Over 45 people attended the event from the youngest participant at 7 and a half months old to the oldest who was in her 80s. The project aims to help build a strong community and encourage more people to work together with businesses engaging with residents. In the workshop, people initially talked about and visually represented how they feel about their “new” Brentford which was expressed in the creation of artwork. Nearby schools are also playing a part in producing the mosaic.

Local artist Susie John is leading the project and she says, “I'm so excited to be a part of this project that celebrates the creativity of local Brentford people”.

“In every programme we run, we focus on building a strong, engaged community, bringing businesses and residents together to help and support each other. For this project, we are shining a light on all things great about Brentford, and championing it, being proud to live and be part of this amazing community” said Helen Roberts, founder of CPG Executive Consulting & partner for this project.

The intention is to complete the mosaic by 18 March and hold an event to unveil the piece at the Digital Dock in Brentford were, it is understood, that the piece will continue to be housed.
