New Lidl Store Clears Planning Hurdle
Council approves proposed changes to former Morrisons site

The prospect of a new Lidl store opening in Brentford has moved a step closer following planning approval being granted at the former Morrisons site.
Lidl is not planning major structural changes to the existing building but needed permission for some minor external works to the property and car park and to refurbish the unit to enable its reoccupation.
The proposed works include the installation of a new shop front with glazed panels, alterations to the existing doors and windows and the addition of a new personnel door. The car park is also going to be resurfaced with the bays reconfigured to be compliant with the latest regulations. When Morrisons operated the store there were 90 spaces including disabled bays, but plans submitted with the application indicate that this will be reduced to about 70.
At the same time permission has been granted for advertising billboards on the front of the store.
Lidl says its Brentford store will be a multi-million pound project which will create around 40 new jobs but despite the grant of planning permission on 10 October Lidl has not given any update on a likely opening date for the store.
The store will have a sales area of 1,439m2 and include a bakery, Middle of Lidl, as well as customer toilets with baby changing facilities.

A lease was signed back in June for the operation of the store at the site which at some point the owner L&Q has said it still intends to develop. However, it is understood that, given the current state of the property market, the Lidl store will remain in place for several years at least.
