Government Relaxes Rules on Building Extensions

National consultation on planning law changes

A government announcement some weeks ago stated that there would be a relaxation of permitted development for a 3 year period. This was widely reported as people being allowed to build 6m and 8m extensions to their houses.

The government has now issued a formal public consultation on this issue, and is asking for comments by 24 December

The consultation can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/extending-permitted-development-rights-for-homeowners-and-businesses-technical-consultation

The response form is open for all to send their responses to government, as individuals and as organisations.

Because of the short time frame for consultation, there is not an opportunity for this to be sent to Area Forum for discussion. The link is being sent to amenity societies directly for information, and individuals can respond directly
