The Brentford Masters Rowing Club believes it has brought home the first win on the river for a club in the area for over 100 years.
In 1913 the Brentford Conservative Rowing Club Coxed Four gathered a huge haul of trophies including the Kingston Open Fours, Brentford Conservative Regatta Open Fours, Thick-Halle Memorial Cup and the Reading Challenge Bowl. In addition, they raced at Henley and won the Dewar Shield and Brakespear Memorial Cup and Tom Sim's Challenge Cup at Oxford.
Since then, it has been lean times for adult rowing clubs based in Brentford although the youth section of the Brentford Boat Club has seen success.
The Brentford Masters Rowing Club, which affiliated with British Rowing this January, competed last Saturday (9 November) at the Kingston Small Boats Head, hosted by Kingston Rowing Club. It had three crews entered: a men's quad, women's four and a men's double.
The men's quad unfortunately had equipment breakage and finished the race with only three of the four rowing but the other two crews both won their events.
The Brentford Women's Four was made up of Lorna Anderson, Kirsty Russell-Duff, Ainslie Rimmer and Sam Harris.
Ken Creighton and Simon Hunt rowed in the Men's Double.
