Future of Verdict Bakery Could Be Uncertain

Lease for site on Market Place being advertised by estate agent

A question mark has been raised over the future of a popular Brentford café after the lease on its premises was advertised.

Verdict Bakery occupies the landmark former Magistrates’ Court in Market Place and the owners have been active supports of local community initiatives.

Now the lease on the site is being offered through Whitman & Co Commercial at an annual rent of £30,000 per annum rising to £40,000 per annum within two years.

The potential of its location next to the Ballymore property development is highlighted with 900 more people set to move into the area.

The ground floor of the building was converted into a café in 2016 with flats built above. The café is at the northern point of a piazza which holds regular markets. It is possible to split the unit up so that more than one business could take over the site.

The estate agent’s particulars state that by agreement, use of the current brand and goodwill, could be part of any deal which gives the option of The Verdict continuing to operate but under new management.

We have contacted Verdict Bakery for comment.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
