Medical treatment while you wait for the ambulance to arrive
From Friday 27th November 2009, Hounslow Borough Police have joined up with the London Ambulance Service from Isleworth to patrol together every Friday and Saturday night.
The LAS will provide a paramedic who will patrol in a police response vehicle with two police officers. They will be deployed to calls where there is a likelihood that somebody may be injured. This will include fights, road traffic collision, collapses in the street and assaults. The paramedic will deal with the injured parties and this will allow the police officers to deal with any criminal investigations.
A significant number of calls to the LAS on a Friday and Saturday night come from the police. By having a paramedic actually on patrol with police officers will mean they can attend and assess victims much more quickly. This will mean that an ambulance may not be needed. This will free up more ambulances to help those who really need it and will improve their response times to other calls.
For the police it gives them somebody who is readily available to deal with the many victims the police come across at the weekend. This means that the people of Hounslow will be getter a much better response from the emergency services with both the police and LAS being available at the same time.
The patrols will be from 2100 hours to 0600 hours on the two nights each week. The paramedic will carry sufficient first aid equipment so they can give initial treatment to those who need it pending the arrival of an ambulance.
