Hounslow Police Make 10 Arrests

As well as Other Operations This Month

Last week Hounslow Police have taken part in three major operations. On Monday and Tuesday officers from Hounslow were engaged in Operation Big Wing. This was a crack down on outstanding wanted offenders. Big Wing has resulted in 444 arrests Met-wide, with outstanding suspects being detained for a full spectrum of offences including rape, robbery and GBH. At Hounslow we had 10 arrests including theft, shoplifting, failing to attend drugs assessments, criminal damage and drugs possession.

Also on Tuesday our officers along with staff from Smartwater attended two major metal recycling plants. This was to find and disrupt criminal activity around the theft of metal as part of Operation Ferrous. This is a major problem in the UK due to the high cost of raw materials; every borough in London has been engaged in two weeks of activity. Eleven other sites were visited in Hounslow and owners warned about buying possible stolen scrap metal.

On Wednesday Hounslow Safer Neighbourhood Teams took part in a partnership day in Hounslow High Street along with members of the Community Safety Team, London Ambulance Service (LAS), London Fire Brigade (LFB), Street Cleansing/graffiti/removal teams, London Borough of Hounslow Enforcement Officers and officers from the Metropolitan Police Service Territorial Support Group (TSG). The event was part of a drive to reduce crime and improve the quality of life for all the citizens using the town centre.

Safer Neighbourhood Teams led by Chief Inspector Wilson were positioned around Hounslow Town Centre stopping and seizing uninsured vehicles as part of Operation Cubo. This tactic allows police to disrupt criminal activity by targeting uninsured drivers who are more likely to commit crime and be involved in accidents. Officers stopped more than 100 vehicles and seizing 5 for no insurance, one arrest was made for criminal damage. Officers from SNTs and TSG patrolled the town centre preventing crime and reassuring shoppers. They also assisted tracing a lost 2 year old child who had become separated from his parents. Local Authority Enforcement Officers also accompanied police. Warnings were given to traders who were not complying with the terms of their licences to trade in the high street.

Seven LFB officers led by Hounslow Borough Commander Stuart Low advised 30 shops in the High Street on waste management, stock control and fire precautions on the run up to Christmas.

The LAS led by Isleworth Duty Station Officer Graham Card provided advice to Christmas shoppers on health and well being over the Christmas period. He also gave practical advice how to help LAS crews in an emergency and how members of the public can volunteer to help the LAS in the same way Special Constables help the MPS.

A crime prevention stall was run by Debbie Dobson from the Hounslow Business Against Crime and Amolak Tatter from the Community Safety Team. Along with PCSOs from SNTs they gave crime prevention advice to Christmas shoppers on how to stay safe during the Christmas period. Advice was given around motor vehicle crime and burglary. They warned drivers to keep valuables out of sight in vehicles and residents to lock doors and windows at home, also to leave a light on during the longer winter nights. These simple tips can prevent members of the public being victims of crime. They also gave advice on personal safety, to keep valuables out of sight in public and to make sure they plan evenings out, especially when drinking during the party season.

Chief Inspector Rob Wilson said “This is fantastic effort by all the emergency services, Community Safety Team and Local Authority.  We have worked together to make Hounslow a safer place to work, life and travel through. Over 50 officers from different agencies have come together on this day of action to enforce the law and provide reassurance and advice to shoppers in the town centre. Our work together today and over the coming months should make a real difference to the citizens of Hounslow”.
