Growing Food On Commerce Road

New Group Aims to Cultivate London

Cultivate London is an exciting new enterprise bringing agriculture to urban areas and will begin work on Commerce Road in Brentford in October.

Cultivate London is an initiative of Ealing and Brentford Consolidated Charity (EBCC) and has three main aims:

  1. To convert disused and underused land into productive food growing space
  2. To provide jobs and training to young unemployed people
  3. To promote locally grown food to local residents

Cultivate London will begin work in October 2010 on two sites.  The first is at Commerce Rd, Brentford alongside the canal where Isis Waterside Regeneration is looking to develop in the future.  The second site is at 689 London Rd, Isleworth and this piece of land has been granted to us by The National Trust.

Cultivate London is looking for volunteers who are interested in helping clear the sites and set them up for growing.   We’d also be grateful to people who are able to donate gardening equipment such as watering cans, wheelbarrows and tools.

We are also taking registrations of interest from young people wanting more information on traineeships and work experience opportunities.  We will provide paid, part-time traineeships for a period of 6 months to people aged 16-26.  Young people who work with us will be given the opportunity to take up work experience placements with a range of large, commercial partners involved in landscape design and maintenance, sports ground management and market gardening.

If you’d like to register your interest in any of the above volunteer and training opportunities, please send your name and contact details to Leah McPherson at leah.mcpherson@e-bcc.org.uk or call 0795 648 7257.
