Butcher Given the Bees Management Job
England legend chosen to lead Brentford FC
Brentford Football Club have announced the appointment of former England captain Terry Butcher as their new Manager.
In a highly successful playing career which started at Ipswich and ended at Glasgow Rangers, Butcher amassed 77 caps for England and was part of the 1990 World Cup team that so nearly reached the final. He is perhaps best known images of him walking off the pitch in a blood coloured shirt after a qualifying game in that tournament
Bees Chairman Greg Dyke said: "We are delighted to have obtained the services of Terry Butcher as Manager. His record as a player is second to none and stands as an inspiration to others. We were particularly impressed by his four year record at Motherwell where under his leadership and guidance the Club competed well above expectations. With that experience under his belt we believe that Terry is the right person to lead the Brentford fightback".
Butcher will be the club's third manager this season. Following Brentford's relegation to the bottom league of the professional game they sacked manager Scott Fitzgerald and his assistant Alan Reeves. He had replaced Leroy Rosenoir who had been in charge at the beginning of the season.
Terry Butcher said: "I'm thrilled and delighted to be at Brentford Football Club. I was very impressed by the Board and the Chairman, and the plans they have for the future of the Club. I'm aware of everybody's desire to bounce back into League One and I want to start that process as soon as possible. I'm really looking forward to the challenge."
He takes over from Barry Quin who had the job on a caretaker basis
