Brentford is set for a rare musical treat this month as legendary singer-songwriter Nick Lowe returns to his home patch for an intimate fundraising gig in support of the Brentford Canal Festival. The special performance, taking place on Friday 22 May at a soon-to-be-announced venue with a capacity of around 150, promises to be one of the most sought-after local tickets of the year.

Lowe, whose career spans more than five decades, has long been regarded as one of Britain’s most distinctive and influential songwriters. From his early days with pub-rock pioneers Brinsley Schwarz, through his era-defining work with Stiff Records, to his acclaimed solo albums and production credits for artists including Elvis Costello, The Pretenders and The Damned, Lowe has shaped the sound of British popular music.

For this one-off night, the long-time Brentford resident will be joined by Phil ‘Swill’ Odgers of The Men They Couldn’t Hang, one of the most enduring voices in British folk-punk, along with Matty James Cassidy, the Northern Irish singer-songwriter known for his blend of Americana and rock’n’roll, accompanied by Simon Cohen on fiddle. The line-up brings together three generations of musicians with deep roots in storytelling, tradition and live performance.

Lowe has volunteered his time to help raise funds for the Brentford Canal Festival, supporting the organisers’ commitment to keeping the event free for visitors. His appearance is being staged in partnership with Duke of London, which is launching a new waterside venue in Brentford this month.

With only around 150 tickets available, the gig is expected to sell out instantly once details are released

Further information, including venue and ticketing details, will be announced shortly.
