More Venues Joining This Year's Creative Mile
Theme of event in September will be the influence of local waterways

This year’s Creative Mile promises to be the biggest yet with even more venues and artists taking part.
The event aims to showcase Brentford’s creative community from painters to printmakers, hatmakers to ironworks, ceramicists to sculptors.
Creative Mile takes place on 1-3 September, and everyone is welcome to enter all the venues for free. In its third year, it will present work by over seventy local artists and makers. Last year, over 3,000 people attended and another big weekend is expected in Brentford.
The theme of the event is water and how the Thames, River Brent and the Grand Union canal have influenced the area’s past and future. This year Creative Mile is collaborating with the Totally Thames festival which is coming to Brentford for the first time and there will be special events and performances over the weekend. Totally Thames celebrates the capital’s river with a month of events at festival hubs across London.
A walking trail takes you through the participating venues which has a mix of old industrial, heritage properties, studios and galleries, arts centre, and museums.
New venues for 2023 include Marthe Armitage Prints which moved to Brentford Lock last year as well as Great West Gallery and Digital Dock which hosts fortnightly life drawing classes, Brentford Nudes!

Boston Manor House re-opened in July, after six years of extensive renovations and here will be tours and exhibitions illustrating the work of heritage craftspeople involved in restoring the historic interiors. Jimmy Choo’s London Fashion Academy opened workshops and design studios at Boston Manor House and will be doing demonstrations. St Paul’s is opening the space for exhibitions, you can also enjoy a break at Spire Café.
Some industrial buildings are due for redevelopment and the hub at Catherine Wheel Road will look vastly different next year. Other sites to visit include the Duke of London studios, Lôft, Brentford Project event space and Johnson’s Island. Waterman’s Arts Centre will feature digital films inspired by this year’s theme of water, plus live performances, and artists. The Musical Museum and London Museum of Water and Steam with open artist studios, are joining again this year.

Creative Mile is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company which receives support from The Brentford Project, Fairview New Homes, Quilliam and with grants from Hounslow Council, Creative Enterprise West, Heathrow Community Trust, and Inspire Hounslow.
