Time is the Theme for This Year's Creative Mile


A weekend of events will celebrate Brentford past and present

This year’s Creative Mile is to take time as its theme with an exploration of the ever-changing landscape of watersides and passageways emerging in Brentford and a celebration of the new, the restored and the landmark venues of TW8.

Creative Mile is part of an active network of community and cultural groups which aims to showcase local creative talents by bringing together artists, makers, and communities for three days in late summer.

Now in its fourth year, Creative Mile is the largest free cultural event in Brentford. It is open to all ages and creatives and over 5,000 visitors are expected to provide a boost to the local economy over the festival weekend. The event will open-up art studios, heritage venues, Thames islands and seeks to bring people together to discover all the town offers and celebrate Brentford.

The opening day is Friday 30 August with venues across Brentford participating from 6-9pm. Then on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September the Creative Mile runs from 11am to 5pm.

New venues joining Creative Mile 2024 include Mother Rugger – a new concept store and ‘accidental gallery’ in Bradshaw’s Yard and Maryville Care Home which will be running small tours of St Mary's Convent Archives twice each day on Saturday and Sunday, admission is on a first come, first served basis.

At Brentford Library, there will be a display of entries to an art competition run on the theme of time, across different age groups with schools in Hounslow and Ealing boroughs involved.

Mr Mr Pearce, Creative Director of Creative Mile ran a series of art sessions for refugees and asylum seekers during Refugee Week in June 2024. This project gives them a platform to express their experiences and aspirations through art and focuses on the theme of time.

Architecture students from Reading University have reimagined the 1930s Jupps Warehouse at Town Wharf, Dock Road and explored how it could be adapted for cultural uses. Drawings and models of their work will be shown at St Pauls.

The Waterman’s Park bandstand will be making a return at 3pm & 5pm on Saturday and Sunday with a musical programme selected to reflect the time theme.

More than 100 artists will be exhibiting aged from 3-99. Brentford has had creative communities living here for hundreds of years and the Creative Mile sees itself as continuing that tradition.
