The Spring Eqinox falls on March 20, 2010, it is a date that most of us recognize as symbolic of changing seasons. As we welcome spring, people south of the equator are actually gearing up for the cooler temperatures of autumn.
On March 20, 2010, at precisely 1:32 pm the Sun will cross directly over the Earth's equator. This moment is known as the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. For the Southern Hemisphere, this is the moment of the autumnal equinox.

And taking that into account, it would be great if people could get to the Eco Village for 1pm to get ready to mark the moment at 1.32pm, and then continue into the evening to celebrate.

Did you know that the equinox means we will have exactly 12 hours of day and night time? Or that the sun will rise in the exact east and set in the exact west? If you would like a good explanation of what the Spring or Vernal Equinox actually means in astronomical terms, please have a look at Bad Astronomy's fact sheet.
