The first phase of London Borough of Hounslow's newly refurbished Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre is opening its doors to offer free taster sessions in the gym and sports hall between 10am  and 4pm on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th November 2009.

With just two months before the completion of the refurbishment work, Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre is inviting local people to try out the new facilities completed in phase one of the work, including a new gym, sports hall, studios and squash courts.

The gym has been relocated to give a light and spacious area on the first floor with over 100 stations of state-of-the-art cardio vascular and resistance machines, some with their own touch screen TV monitors. As well as free access to the equipment, there will be a gym challenge with a prize draw for the best times achieved.   In the new studio there will be a free Cardio blast lunchtime aerobics session between 12.00 and 1.pm

Free coaching sessions will take place for 16s and under in basketball and football, as well as one hour coaching for adults in badminton and squash.

Children will love the Peter Lee Pool Disco with a mix of chart music taking place on Saturday between 2pm and 4pm.  There will also be free family swimming sessions so there's also the opportunity for older siblings and parents to take the plunge.

The new crèche will be open for parents to view before it opens and you can take a break in the new relaxing café area for snacks and drinks.

Centre manager, Chris Jones says the new changing area has had very positive feedback from swimmers, " Regular visitors have been very patient and supportive while the building work has been going on and I hope the local community will come in and see what a vast improvement has been achieve already.   Phase one of the refurbishment has ended on time and on budget and I am looking forward to the completion of the project at the end of January".

Cllr Becky Stewart, lead member for leisure at the council, said: "We're investing more than ever in our local leisure centres after years of neglect so it's great to see the results."This is the first of a series of improvements we're making across the borough so people should come down and see the new facilities for themselves."

Planning the opening event has also been down to Chris:  "There'll be a lot going on including face painting and various other activities. We hope people will come and enjoy the free entry to the gym and try out the studio taster sessions and coaching on offer".

Work continues on the final stages of the refurbishment which will complete the front entrance, and the squash courts.
