Historic Houses of Hounslow

Next talk of Hounslow and District History Society

Historic Houses of Hounslow is the topic of the forthcoming lecture of Hounslow and District History Society.  The meeting will take place at the United Reformed Church Hall, Chapel Road, Hounslow on Tuesday 31 March 2015 at 7.45pm. The lecturer is Ms Christine Diwell, a Hounslow Heritage Guide and the Secretary of The Isleworth Society.

Ms Diwell will include Syon House whence Lady Jane Grey, the nine-day Queen and Queen Catherine Howard left on their fateful journeys to the Tower of London. At Chiswick House, a fine Palladian Villa, Georgina, Duchess of Devonshire entertained and Osterley House was bequeathed by an Earl of Jersey to the National Trust. Lesser-known homes such as those of a soap manufacturer and a famous botanist, as well as a film studio will be explored.

This will be a fascinating illustrated talk, given all the well-known local sites with their less well-known histories. Everyone is welcome at £2.00 each for non-members.
