Brentford First World War Memorial Relocation & Rededication service

Please attend on Saturday September 19th

The people of Brentford, Julia Quilliam, the Brentford High Street Steering Group & Brentford Chamber of Commerce have been working with Hounslow Council to relocate the First World War Memorial stone to be outside Brentford Library with the other memorial stones and the cenotaph (previously the stone was located at St Lawrence’s Church which is now closed). After the Council received permission from the Secretary of State, and local people secured funding from Hounslow Council this locally driven project has been put into action.  Brentford British Legion are also using their funding to support the event

To mark the event a Rededication Service will be held on Saturday 19th September and all are invited to come along;

  • At 9.30 a parade led by the 2nd Regiment Royal Fusiliers, standard bearers from the Royal British Legion, other Regimental Associations, and the 203 Brentford Cadets will march from the Magistrates Court, down the High Street, up Half Acre, to the Library. 

They will be joined on the march by the Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Paul Lynch, the Mayoress, the Mayor’s Mace Bearer, the Deputy Mayor & Consort and the Reverend Derek Simpson. 

  • The parade & service will be supported with music by the Band of 86 (Heston & Isleworth) Squadron ATC, and a Bugler from the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall will sound the Last Post.

All are encouraged to line the route to watch the parade.

  • At 10am Reverend Derek Simpson will lead a service at the memorial, outside the library with musical support from a military band.  All are welcome to attend the service.  Thank you to John Laing Integrated Services for their support in accessing the Library site.

The Mayor of Hounslow, Paul Lynch will be in attendance and will address the local community, and both the serving soldiers & the veterans.

  • The Metropolitan Police will be marshalling the event using a rolling road block.

The Forces, the Mayor, local Councillors, the Police, and local organisations & people will lay a wreath at the memorial to commemorate those that gave their life in the First World War.
