Brentford’s riverside is gearing up for one of its most spirited community events as the Brentford Pubs Gig Regatta returns on Saturday 27 June, bringing together eight local pubs for an afternoon of friendly rivalry, river racing and family‑friendly fun. Hosted by Brentford Community Boathouse, the event begins at 12.30pm, with racing from 1pm to 4pm and prizegiving at 3.15pm.

This year’s line‑up captures the full character of Brentford’s pub scene, with crews representing The Brook, Horse & Guardsman, The Griffin, Black Dog (fielding two teams), the Kings Arms, Watermans and Anima. They will compete two‑abreast through a series of heats and semi‑finals before the top crews meet in the A and B Finals. The draw sets up some lively early contests, including The Brook taking on Horse & Guardsman in the opening heat, and a derby‑style clash between Black Dog 1 and The Griffin shortly afterwards. Kings Arms face Black Dog 2, while Watermans meet Anima in the final heat of the round.

The regatta forms the centrepiece of a wider Community Open Day, designed to bring together families, residents and pub regulars for a celebration of teamwork, riverside life and Brentford’s long tradition of water‑based sport. The modern event revives the town’s historic regatta, first held in 1849 and famously linked to the origins of Brentford Football Club.

Organisers promise a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with plenty of food, drink and local pints to keep spirits high. Spectators of all ages are encouraged to come along, though racing crews must be eighteen or over. No rowing experience is required, and teams can either book one of the optional training sessions in the run‑up to race day or simply turn up and take their chances on the water. Participants are advised to dress for the elements, with layers, waterproofs and shoes that can handle a bit of spray.
