Local Artists to Hold Selling Exhibition at Redlees Studios

Two local artists are to hold a display of their works beginning later this month at The Gallery in Redlees Studios
Ceramicist Peter Smith and abstract fine artist Amelia Lucy Wood (Abstract Fine Art) are presenting a selling exhibition comprising current and brand new work.
They hope to bring together a narrative about the form and colour of each art piece. The unifying element of both artist’s work is the use of form; in Amelia’s work the shapes and improvisation of colours representing the textures of buildings and surfaces is echoed in the way Peter uses form with a limited colour palette to play with light and create movement with the play of shadows across the surface of his ceramics.
The exhibition runs over two weekends: 25-27 October and 1-3 November and is open to the public throughout the run. The exhibition opening times are 6-9pm Friday and 11am – 5pm Saturday and Sunday.
Peter and Amelia will be at Redlees through the exhibition and will present ‘show and tell’ sessions and discussions on what being creative means to them at Redlees Studios.
Peter will be showing stoneware and raku fired ceramics, including a new set of large scale, hand built open form vessels, alongside a contrasting series of naked raku pots made on the potter’s wheel. He has just finished a raku firing weekend in rural Oxfordshire, where he fires in a bespoke gas-fired oil drum kiln. This was built together with his dad specifically to accommodate large pieces.
A long-time Hounslow Borough resident, Peter is Oxford-born, but moved to London to study engineering early in life and moved into a managerial career in the NHS of over 30 years, currently working as an improvement professional. It was at Sixth Form that Peter happened upon the potter’s wheel and he became hooked on making pottery for life. Developing his skills through adult education classes and then setting up his own studio, Peter’s passion for creating unique pieces of ceramic has endured through career and studio changes. Currently, Peter has been settled in the artistic home that is Redlees Studios, where he has run a studio space for the last 15 years. He is an associate member of the Craft Potters Association.
Peter said that he is “super excited to be showing work in the formal surroundings of the gallery once again. I am sure that people will see that my work has progressed and in particular, my large vessels have developed into pure sculptural pieces.”
This is Peter’s third year presenting an Autumn show at Redlees Gallery.

Amelia Lucy wood is an award winning, international, abstract fine artist who specialises in creating collages and mixed media works of art on wood, card, canvas and recycled packaging. Her use of colour and composition, linked with her ability to create art work from recycled materials, enables her to produce original works of art with an environmentally conscious approach. Amelia was born and raised in Feltham, Middlesex where she continues to live and paint whilst being a busy mother. Her studio is at Redlees Studios in Isleworth and enjoys spending evenings and weekends there creating art along with other resident artists.
Talking about her work, Amelia said, “Most of my paintings are created without reference. They depict my mind set at that time. I will often notice shapes, colours and images in my work emerging whilst I paint. These images are usually abstract ‘ghost-like’ forms of objects and sounds that I have seen or heard in the day, as well as being manifestations of my mood and the music that surrounds me as I paint.”

Peter and Amelia have regularly exhibited their work in the UK and internationally, including galleries in London, Cambridge, Oxford New York and the Canary islands.
Redlees Studios is a converted Victorian stable block, which was developed as a set of artist studio spaces and gallery following receipt of a Lottery Fund grant by Hounslow Council. It is at Worton Road, Isleworth, TW7 6DW.
