Kingfisher Exhibition Begins at the Watermans

A photographic documentary, three years in the making, of Kingfishers along the Grand Union Canal around Brentford and beyond has opened at the Watermans Art Centre.
Running until 2 May the displays in ‘King of Brentford’ show the work of local photographer Scott Margetts.
Scott says, "During the first lockdown I saw, for the first time, two kingfishers race past me whilst I walked along the canal nearby. Enchanted by this sighting and intrigued by the urban backdrop of light industrial and residential development I have attempted to document these local kingfishers every day since. I have been fascinated by the challenges they face and have been able to evidence them in this habitat from the allotments area opposite The Island, past The Weir Bar, Brentford Lock and all the way down to Brentford Dock past Thames Lock, MSO Marine and on to Ferry Quay where they continue on to Kew Gardens and Sion House Grounds”.
He was shortlisted for Wildlife Photographer of the Year in the relevant Urban Wildlife category and hopes to sell prints to support the ongoing efforts to document this unusual story of Kingfishers' survival in this area.
The exhibition is in the centre’s riverside gallery and entry is free.
