February 16th:‘Where Are the Songs We Sung?’

A concert of French and English songs across the turn of the 20th century

In honour of Chiswick composer Donald Ford

Lucy Green – mezzo-soprano; Felicity Hepper – piano

Lucy Green is a renowned music-educationalist with four books and numerous articles to her name, and is Professor of Music Education at London University’s Institute of Education. Originally a first-study pianist, she turned to singing in her late twenties, before giving up music-making to devote herself to her educational work and her family. In the last couple of years she has returned to her musical activities, and whenever she can find the time, she attempts to ‘practice what she preaches’ – that is, make music! She sings regularly with the piano, lute or a small ensemble, and has performed solos from the Vivaldi Gloria, Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, the Fauré Requiem, Handel’s Messiah and many other works. Lucy has sung in a number of choirs, including the English Chamber Choir, the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and the London Baroque Choir. Currently she is a member of the London chamber choir St. Peter’s Singers, and Helios Voices.

Felicity Hepper is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who also has a keen interest in music. She was educated at Wells Cathedral School, with piano as first and violin as second instrument. Since having a family, she has accompanied several children’s choirs that her children have belonged to, and supported their school music. With Lucy, she is also a member of St Peter’s Singers.

Lunchtime Concerts

St Paul's church hosts its regular monthly concerts on the 3rd Wednesdays of the month. Concerts are 1.15-2 pm in the St.Paul's Centre, Brentford.  Join us there for lunch from 12 noon before the concert in our award winning Open House Café, or for tea afterwards. Suggested donation £3.00

St Paul's lunchtime concerts can provide a platform for established local musicians, or a valuable opportunity for students to gain experience in front of a live audience.
