Event for unemployed young people in Hounslow

Local Training Providers and Volunteer Groups at the Ready

Unemployed young people in Hounslow are set to benefit from a large recruitment event taking place in the borough at the end of the month.

Hounslow Connexions are inviting all unemployed 16-19 year olds and parents and carers to attend I-Connect at the Paul Robeson Theatre Centre on Thursday 29th September between 4-8pm.

I-Connect is open to all young people not intending to return to education or who are undecided about their future employment plans. Over 20 local training providers and volunteer groups will be on hand to offer foundation learning, apprenticeships and work placements on the day.

Staff from Hounslow Council, Connexions and Hounslow Job Centre Plus staff will be on hand to offer helpful advice on careers and the local job market as well as all full time live job vacancies suitable for teenagers.

Invitations are sent by Connexions to all young people and their parents the week before the event, with young people also contacted by phone and SMS text messages.

Parking will be free at the Treaty Centre from 5pm on the evening of the event.

Cllr Lily Bath, Hounslow’s cabinet member for children, youth and families said: “At last year’s event, it was great to see so many young people in attendance planning the next stage of their lives.

“We work hard throughout the year to monitor the progress of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) to ensure they have the best possible chance to make the best of their situation.

“I-Connect is just one way in which we offer young people access to the many career opportunities available in the borough; through our work conducted by Hounslow Connexions and the Hounslow Education Business Partnership, we offer targeted support to ensure our young people get the step up they need to succeed. I look forward to meeting many of them at this year’s event.”
