Still a long way to go before doors open
A much needed new school for Brentford has moved a step closer to reality after councillors agreed a potential site with developers.
A new three form entry primary school could be built on a 2 acre site on the Commerce Road development, subject to the existing bus depot on the site being relocated.
Cllr Steve Curran, cabinet member for education and housing at the council, said:
“With the growing pressure for school places, this site could offer a significant increase in the number of places we have available for local children.
“This is only the first step though, and we still have a lot of work to do before a school is built.
“In the meantime, we are continuing to work to increase the number of places available to local children across the borough.”
Following the agreement to buy the land from the developer ISIS for £1, a suitable location must be found for the bus garage that currently occupies the site.
Once this is agreed, a feasibility study would need to be carried out prior to applying for planning permission.
