More uniforms keeping streets safe

But only 10 are Police Officers

Residents can feel safer on the borough’s streets thanks to a drive by the council to get more uniformed officers visible in the community.

 Thirty Hounslow Homes officers are the first to receive their new uniforms, and will be wearing them when they are working in public areas.

 They have also received training to raise awareness of how to report crime in the borough, and will act as a visible reassurance to the public.

 There are also more than 100 additional police community support officers patrolling the borough’s streets, in addition to the 10 additional police officers part-funded by the council.

 Cllr Ed Mayne, cabinet member for community safety at the council, said:

 “People feel safer when they know there is someone they can trust nearby. By increasing the visibility of our frontline workers, and giving them training in how to help tackle crime, we hope people can feel safer in their community.

 “This is just the one part of our efforts to tackle crime. We are working with the police and other partners to increase the number of uniformed officers - both council and police - on the borough’s streets.

 “This includes a scheme where we will pay for 5 extra police officers, and the police will pay for another five.

 “We are also actively supporting efforts to recruit more special constables, who play a vital role in making our communities safe.

 “Together, these measures will go a long way to help reassure the public that the borough’s streets are safe, and show criminals that we are taking action to stop them.”

 Godfrey Hamilton, Housing Manager for Hounslow Homes, said:

 “We have been working closely with the council to improve the visibility of our staff on our estates. 

 “Our 30 Anti Social Behaviour and Tenancy Management officers have been fully trained on how to act n anti social behaviour wherever they find it.

 “We also hope that this higher level of visibility will offer reassurance to our residents, and enable them to feel safer on their estates.”

 There are currently 250 uniformed repairs, caretaking and concierge staff, and a further 30 uniforms are being issued to other Hounslow Homes staff who will be receiving special training in due course.
