Olympic themed flower beds for the Summer
The London Borough of Hounslow has become the first local authority in the capital to confirm it will have Olympic rings in parks in time for London 2012, it was confirmed this week.
Hounslow Council received confirmation from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic games (LOCOG) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that the world famous Olympic Rings could be used in their summer plant bedding in parks across the borough.
Lampton Park in Hounslow has already been confirmed as one site where the Olympic Ring ‘carpet bedding’ will be seen by visitors, with an area outside the Civic Centre also becoming home to an Olympic-themed flower arrangement.
Other bedding in parks across the borough will also be Olympic-themed. The Olympic rings will be installed in mid June, with the bedding to look its best for the duration of the London 2012 Games.
The Olympic ring flowers will be the first time in 20 years that Hounslow Council has undertaken carpet bedding in its parks, to commemorate the games coming to London.
Cllr Ruth Cadbury, Hounslow’s cabinet member for the Olympics said:
“We’re delighted to become the first borough in London to get confirmation that we can use the world famous Olympic rings symbols.
“The Olympic Movement is rightly very protective of their symbol, and we have worked hard with both the LOCOG team and the IOC to ensure Hounslow can get into the Olympic spirit in Lampton Park and across the borough.
“Like all London boroughs, we are expecting a huge number of visitors over London 2012 and we want to show people exactly what Hounslow has to offer.
“We’re all excited about the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to our city, and want everyone to enjoy this landmark occasion and get involved as much as possible.”
