Green Dragon Pupils Perform for London Mayor

Raising funds for Young Musicians

Last week, pupils from Green Dragon Primary School in Brentford and Victoria Junior School in Feltham performed at an event hosted by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.

The seven brass players, who have been learning to play at school with the Hounslow Music Service, performed as a brass ensemble at the Arts v Sport breakfast at the Corinthia Hotel, London.

The debate was chaired by Boris Johnson and was held to raise funds for the Mayor’s Fund for Young Musicians.  This charity provides children who have significant musical talent and commitment with outstanding opportunities, and Hounslow pupils and schools have already benefitted from its funding.

Cllr Curran, cabinet member for education and housing at the council, said;

“Music plays an important role in the development and education of children and young people.

“I am delighted that the talents of our pupils in Hounslow have been recognised, and that they performed so well in such a prestigious event.”

Munira Mirza, deputy mayor for education and culture, said:

“The Mayor's Fund for Young Musicians supports musical talent and commitment in children across London, where they may not otherwise have opportunities to develop their skills.

“I was thrilled that these children from Hounslow Music Service were able to join this event and entertain our guests in such a wonderful way.

“The breakfast was a success and raised in excess of £75,000 for future scholarships.”
