Changes to Parking at Civic Centre as Works Commence

Memorial plaques and benches available for collection

In March, plans for a new residential development in Lampton Road, Hounslow were approved.  The first 160 homes are due to be completed in spring 2018 with the remainder, up to 780, planned for completion in 2022.

Hounslow Civic Centre will be completely demolished to make way for the housing, and the council offices will move to a smaller, more cost-efficient and accessible new civic building, incorporating a library and cafe, on the site of the Bath Road car park, just west of Hounslow high street.

Work begins at the end of this week, with hoardings will be going up around both sites.  There will also be changes to visitor parking at the Civic Centre from Friday 24 June, and the public car park in Bath Road will close on Sunday 26 June.

Lampton Road

The Civic Centre will remain open for business while the first phase of housing is built.  However, pedestrian access will be from the entrance by the bus stop near the multi-storey car park. Hoardings will direct people to the entrance point.

The visitors’ car park will close from 5pm Friday 24 June, and relocate to the multi storey car park from Monday 27 June.  There will be a reduced number of spaces available, so please check whether you can access the service you need online at www.hounslow.gov.uk or consider using alternative transport if visiting the Civic Centre.

Bath Road

The public car park will close permanently at midnight on Sunday 26 June.  Alternative parking is available in the Alexandra Road / Holloway Street, Bell Road, Treaty Centre and School Road car parks. A list and map of local car parks are available at www.hounslow.gov.uk/where_to_park.

Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “We are fully committed to doing what we can to build new and affordable homes for residents which are much needed and we made a promise to do so.

“These homes will be built on the site of the current Civic Centre, the land being freed up, as we move to a new, fantastic community-based civic centre right in the heart of Hounslow.

“The new, modern Civic Centre will support more efficient ways of working and allow us to improve our services to residents, incorporating a modern library, community space to promote and hold events and exhibitions, plus shared offices for the council, police and health services.

“It is an exciting time and puts Hounslow town centre on the map once again.”

Memorial plaques and benches

As the work begins, a number of memorial plaques and benches that have been placed in the grounds of the current Civic Centre in Lampton Road over the years, are currently being stored by the council.
