Council vow to 'get moving' on new location
A brand-new Lucozade sign could soon be welcoming drivers heading into Brentford.
The popularity of the sign was indicated by the widespread media interest in the demise of the iconic landmark, with coverage in national newspapers and on BBC London 94.9FM.
Lucozade began life at the old Beecham's factory on the A4. Beechams is now part of GSK, who opened a new worldwide headquarters along the Great West Road in 2002. GSK vice-president Graham Neale commented "There has always been great affection for the sign among west Londoners and commuters alike. "Lucozade is a great British brand dating back to the 1920s, it's always been based in Brentford and that's helped make this a landmark people genuinely care about."
Planning permission for the extended office building will be sought in November. Any TW8 readers wishing to comment on this application should write to editor@brentfordTW8.com. We will pass on your comments to planning officers and local councillors.

A site has been identified for a replica of the famous neon illuminated advertisement which was taken down in August after nearly 50 years service. and Hounslow Council's planning department has said it will 'get moving really quickly' to make the plan a reality. The new site will be the side of an office building next to the Texaco garage, about 100 yards from the site formerly occupied by the sign. The building, currently three storeys high, will be extended upwards to six stories. A new version of the sign, an exact replica, will be placed on the upper part of the building that faces traffic driving into London. The sign will be built and maintained by local firm JC Decaux. |
