MP Mary Macleod Visits Brentford Boating Arch

Boating Arch has received over £60,000 towards its refurbishment

Last week Mary Macleod, the MP for Brentford and Isleworth, visited the Community Sports Trust's Brentford Boating Arch at Kew Bridge to learn more about the club, what it offers and its plans for the future.

Mary MacleodMary joined Ian Dobie (pictured on the right), Chair of the Community Sports Trust and Managing Director of local developer St George West London, and Luke Skelhorn (to the left of Mary), the Trust's General Manager to have a look around the facility and was given a presentation on the achievements of the club in the three years since it was first opened.

Mary was suitably impressed with the club and has promised to return to try her hand at kayaking: "The Brentford Boating Arch is a fantastic local facility and is helping make this stretch of the river accessible to absolutely everyone of all ages, all abilities and all backgrounds. I hope that the club continues to attract both investment and new members and I look forward to getting on the water myself before the weather gets too bad!"

The club has secured £41,000 of funding from The London Marathon Trust and a further £27,000 from the Veolia Environmental Trust to refurbish the arch which will help improve the facilities and expand the range of activities available.

Ian Dobie added, "This investment alongside the planned development of a second arch for youth rowing will be a massive boost to the club and goes to show just how fast we have expanded over the past three years. In addition to this, St George has just started work on its new mixed-use Kew Bridge development, which will also feature a brand new public square and a floating pontoon, completely transforming this part of the riverside and further increasing access for our club members and participants to the river."

Brentford Boating Arch is open to all and delivers a range of activities for adults, young people and people with disabilities.
