West London Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair at West Thames College

Mary Macleod organises initiative to offer support for those looking for work

Brentford MP Mary Macleod has announced that the West London Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair will bring hundreds of vacancies to people living in the area. Hosted by West Thames College, the event will see businesses and employers come together for the event on 30th March.

Mary commented: “In addition to a significant number of job vacancies, we will have a series of seminars and workshops that will offer support for people trying to find work. We have been working closely with Jobcentre Plus and local and national employers to ensure that we can maximise the opportunities for local residents.”

Organised by Mary Macleod MP, the Jobs Fair is being supported by Jobcentre Plus, major local employer BAA and hosted by West Thames College. Many businesses have already confirmed their attendance including Barclays who will be hosting a seminar on CV writing. Security company G4S, who will provide over 30,000 security personnel at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, have already confirmed that they will have a significant number of vacancies on offer at the fair.

Work and Pensions Minister, Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP, who is attending the event, commented: “I think that the West London Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair is a fantastic initiative to get people back into work and I am delighted that so many businesses are taking part. During these challenging times it is important that we do everything that we can to ensure that people are matched with an appropriate job or training programme, such as our work experience programme which is seeing over 50% of those volunteering for the scheme leave benefits. I am looking forward to coming to West Thames College on the 30th and seeing for myself how the initiative is helping get people into work.”

Mary added, “I would be really interested to hear from any organisation that would like to get involved. This is a fantastic opportunity for local residents who are looking for work to meet with potential employers, get professional CV advice or learn how to start a new business.”
