Gold and Scrap Metal Being Sought

Gold
Possibly due to the slowdown of the global economy, the price of gold has risen steadily as it is seen as a safe investment in times of uncertainty.  Please take great care of any flyers that may be pushed through your front door, adverts placed in magazines and newspapers, or indeed cold callers to your home, who want you to part with ‘unwanted’ gold.  If you have gold items that you may wish to sell or indeed have valued, use only a reputable jeweler.

Scrap Metal
The value of scrap metal has also increased which has seen an increase of metal objects ‘disappearing’ from front and back gardens and alleyways throughout the UK.  Not only are discarded refrigerators and ovens taken, but any metal item, including garden furniture, ornaments and in some cases children’s climbing frames, electric wheelchairs and wheelchair ramps are taken and then sold to unscrupulous scrap metal merchants. Residents are asked to be vigilant to any vehicle, normally an open flat top truck full of scrap, being driven slowly in the area.  If occupants of the truck are seen to enter gardens to take item(s) without the home owner being present, you may without realizing be witnessing a theft.  Residents are asked to make a note of the make, colour and registration of the vehicle and a description of the person concerned.
