October News from Neighbourhood Watch

Lock your windows to prevent burglaries and other seasonal advice

British Summer Time Ends, Sunday 28th October
At 02.00am Sunday 28th October, clocks go back one hour.  Residents are reminded that with the dark winter evenings and nights, they should always keep all doors and windows closed and locked.

Halloween Night, Wednesday 31st October
No one wishes to spoil the fun of local children accompanied by adults calling at our homes “trick or treating” on Halloween Night, but please do not be fooled or distracted by other less welcome callers who may not have been seen in the area before, who may use Halloween as an excuse to gain entry into homes.  Always check who’s at the front door and don’t open it if you feel concerned.

Changes to the Brentford Safer Neighbourhoods Team
The Brentford Safer Neighbourhoods Team has now become the Brentford and Chiswick Safer Neighbourhoods Team, based at Chiswick Police Station.

The Brentford and Chiswick Safer Neighbourhoods Team also have a new head. Acting Police Sergeant Ibrahim Mahmoud has taken over from Police Sergeant Christopher Jones, who retired in September.

Burglary
There has been a recent night time burglary where burglar(s) managed to enter the premises through a closed but unsecured front door.  Once inside the premises, the burglar(s) were apparently disturbed by sounds coming from upstairs and fled through the front door, but not before taking with them a handbag containing keys, cash and credit cards.

It is extremely important before retiring each evening, to check that all windows and doors are secured and/or locked.
A burglar has no sympathy or compassion for anyone who has left a window open or a door unlocked.

During day light hours, leaving a door or a window open or unsecured, even if someone is inside the premises is extremely dangerous.  When leaving premises unattended, even for a short period, no matter how inconvenient, ensure that all windows and doors are locked and secured.
