Burglars Turned on Gas Taps Before Leaving

November update from Neighbourhood Watch

Burglary, Boston Gardens
In early October, the home of an elderly Brentford resident living in Boston Gardens was broken into while the resident was out of the house.  When the resident returned home they not only found that the house had been burgled, but whoever broke into the home had callously turned gas taps on before leaving.

No matter how long a period you intend to be away from your property, always ensure that all windows and doors are shut and locked. If a burglar does happen to be in the neighbourhood, they will certainly be looking out for an opportunity to break in.

Burglary Prevention Website

With the dark evenings and nights now upon us and with the Festive Season fast approaching, the London Borough of Hounslow have teamed up with the Metropolitan Police in a bid to safeguard homes and valuables against burglary.  The website above offers residents simple and practical advice on how to beat the burglars.

If You Are Concerned About Someone in the Area
The police also wish to advise residents that if you are concerned about the presence of anyone in the area who you think is acting suspiciously or causing concern, do not    hesitate to contact them by dialing 101.  The police will send a patrol and speak to the individual(s) to ensure that they are there for a good reason.

Bicycle Crime

www.immobilise.com
The police are warning residents that there has been a noticeable increase of bicycle crime in the Hounslow area.  Always ensure that when leaving bicycles unattended for any length of time, to lock the bicycle to something solid.  When bicycles are kept locked   in a shed or a garage use a heavy duty padlock to secure the shed/garage doors.  Bicycle owners are advised to register their bicycles with the police by visiting the Bike Register website (above).  Bicycles and indeed any item of home and personal property can also be registered by visiting the Immobilise website.

Car Break In, Albany Road
On 13th October, a vehicle parked in the vicinity of Albany Road was broken into.  The thief or thieves smashed open the vehicle’s rear window and a bag left on view inside the vehicle was stolen.  The contents of the bag was medication and of no monetary value to the thief.  Leaving anything on view inside a vehicle, like a jacket or bag, even loose change for parking meters, is unwise.  Vehicle owners are also reminded to clean off the sticky impressions left on the inside of windshields by satellite navigation system holders.  Thieves look for these impressions and will break into any vehicle simply to check if a sat-nav. has been placed inside the glove compartment.
