'Surprise' Application Submitted for Adini Site on A4

A planning application (P/2022/1973) has been submitted for a development at the Adini site on the Great West Road opposite Gillette Corner.
The proposal is to restore the locally listed Art Deco building and build two blocks up to six storeys high containing 51 flats.
The Osterley and Wyke Green Residents’ Association (OWGRA) says it had received no prior notification that a plan was being made and claims that local councillors were also taken aback when the scheme was presented. As it is busy preparing for the conclusion of the Tesco/Homebase enquiry, it has not had time to fully consider this scheme.

Originally, the association had arranged a public meeting for residents to discuss the proposal but this was cancelled due to the death of Queen Elizabeth. A new date for the meeting will be announced in due course.
The site is next to the Access Storage building on the southern side of the A4 around 80 metres west of the junction with Syon Lane. The plot is a 0.21 hectare rectangular space which currently has some vacant warehouses on it.
The plan would see all of the non-listed buildings demolished and the area landscaped with car parking provided.
The new building would be set back more than 20m back from the highway and incorporates a central ‘winter garden’.

With a final decision yet to be made on the Tesco/Homebase scheme there remains some concern about growing population density in the area of the proposal.
