The large spans for the pedestrian bridge across the River Brent have been put in place this week.
On Thursday night (20 April) the 80-tonne central section that had been stored at the nearby yard since February was lifted into place over night being finally put into position at around 3am.
The following morning residents observed that the lifting crane had been made even larger and more work to complete the bridge is expected later. The 10 tonne ramps have arrived but need to be lifted onto the site and then positioned by the crane. This work apparently requires a longer crane which needed to be reassembled and configured.
According to a workman on the site two more sections still need be lifted into place by mid-July, at which point the structure of the bridge will be finished. However, a full opening of the bridge is not now expected until next year. At the moment it links to the uncompleted phase of Brentford Lock West which would mean the bridge only links to a building site.
There are four steel spans to make up the bridge which have been manufactured and transported from Northern Ireland.

Once the bridge opens it will cross the Grand Union Canal, landing in Canal Square on the southwest side, and in Robin Grove recreation ground on the north east side.

Phase three of Brentford Lock West will include 452 new homes with 187 affordable, alongside commercial / retail space as well as the new bridge.
