Public Meeting Over Proposed New All Weather Pitch

Brentford School for Girls want floodlights to permit evening use

Brentford School for Girls have applied for a new all weather pitch with floodlighting for winter community use up to 9pm. This will replace the existing degraded redgra pitch.

There will be a public meeting about this application on Thursday 17th of January, at 6.30pm in the main school hall.

Limited parking is available on site.

Brentford School for Girls want to regenerate the school's outdated redgra area to turn it into a modern all weather 3G astro turf playing surface that will include a 100 metre running track, 2 5-a-side football pitches and a 7-side hockey pitch. It would be surrounded by a 3m high fence.

The pitch would potentially be used between 8.30am-9pm Monday to Friday, 8.30am-6pm on Saturday, and 9.30am-4pm on Sunday and bank holidays.

Although the application says it could be used for winter community use, there is no indication as to how it may be used by the community.

Floodlighting will be given by lights set on 10m high columns. Although the lighting is designed to produce minimal light spill, surrounding residents are worried about the potential effects on their houses directly and the more wider light pollution. Concerns are also raised about noise and traffic impact with greater evening use of the pitch and the lack of means provided to deal with the water running off the impermeable pitch. They produced the following picture showing the expected minimum lighting impact.

At ten metres high the lighting could also impact views from first floor rooms as well as the ground.

The school secured a £147,000 local grant bid (CIL money from Hounslow) to help fund the project and are still fundraising for the further £150,000 needed via https://www.spacehive.com/bsfgsportspitchregenerationproject.
