January Update on Local Policing


Drugs, burglary and theft

Metropolitan Police

Syon Ward

Priority 1 - Drug dealing/Using
• The team have received some good information from residents regarding drug dealing on Syon Ward. Eight warrants have been executed under Operation Hawk since the last update, resulting in arrests for possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs. Drugs with a street value of several hundred pounds have been seized by officers. Some of the arrested suspects are now awaiting court dates.
• PCSO’s have been leaflet dropping in roads surrounding recent Operation Hawk warrants, raising awareness in the community regarding the local work Syon Safer Neighbourhood are doing. This has led to further intelligence from the community

Priority 2 - Burglary
• The team have increased patrols in Linkfield Road and surrounding streets after an increase in burglaries. PCSO’s have been knocking on doors doing cocoon visits, raising awareness amongst residents. Plain clothes police officers have been on patrol in vehicles and on foot,
• The team have visited known offenders at their home addresses, letting them know they are being watched and warning them about their future
• Street briefings have been held at West Middlesex Hospital and outside the newsagents in Twickenham Road, giving a chance for residents to meet the team and answer any questions they may have. Future street briefings are advertised on the met police website and the next one is on Middlesex hospital.

Priority 3 - Theft and/or taking pedal cycles
• The team have been out on patrol on pedal cycles, checking local hot spot areas where bikes are stolen from. Any cyclists seen are spoken to and
• The local Safer Transport team have held bike marking events where bikes have been registered on the internet, making it easier for police to establish the rightful owner in future. We look forward to working with them
in the New Year during further events.Hounslow will lose half its police stations in a cull of the capital's stations announced on 9th January.

Brentford Ward

Priority 1 - Drugs
• The team have increased foot patrols on a Friday and Saturday late shift, with a new shift pattern initiated with patrols engaged into the late evening and early hours. Resent plain clothed operation in Brentford resulted in disruption and apprehension of a known drug dealer with the court remanding the person to the New Year.
• The team have obtained and executed seven warrants on addresses within Chiswick and Brentford searching for drugs. During one of the searches a drugs factory was found and one male was arrested for
cultivating cannabis.

A new role of sector intelligence officer established to obtain information received with efforts to collate intelligence for the subsequent application of search warrants from the Magistrates court.

Priority 2 - Burglary
• PCSO's are engaging with any residents they see reminding them of the importance of securing there house during the day and night. The team are working alongside the Borough Intelligence unit, identifying known burglars within the local area looking to execute warrants in the near future. With increased patrols and the use of covert officers in unmarked police vehicles and duel patrol with local authority wardens.

Task assist- Theft from Motor Vehicle
• The team are conducting an Operation involving decoy vehicles within the Chiswick and Brentford hot spot zone. The decoy vehicle is fully fitted with covert cameras and valuables are left on display. No attempts were made to break into the decoy vehicle, despite other vehicles in the same road being stolen from, the initiative continues with wards working together in efforts to reduce crime trend.

Op CUBO/Op Reclaim
• The team represented the sector during Operation CUBO which was detailed in the National Press, Throughout London uniformed police officers stopped motorists at busy locations, checking motorists had the correct licence and insurance to drive. The Strategic aim of the operation was to (1) Deny criminals the use of London's roads, (2) Disrupt criminal activity and (3) Seize cars within the Operation Reclaim criteria. Ten vehicles were seized across the borough for no insurance. The team intend to run similar Operations every month.
