After consultation with the public last summer
Work began onsite this week to create active healthy spaces for children and their families in the borough.
Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council and Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Green Policy and Leisure met with architects and contractors at Redlees Park playground in Isleworth to launch the next phase of the Hounslow Active Spaces project.
Active Spaces aims to promote the benefits of outdoor play and physical activity on health and wellbeing through community involvement and participation.
Four playgrounds will be refurbished as part of the project and a further three will benefit from partial refurbishment later this year.
The new active play spaces will help Hounslow reach its targets to encourage physical activity and reduce childhood obesity, as well as bringing social benefits for families. The project is just one of the ways Hounslow is supporting residents to be more active.
Over the summer, designers met with pupils and the local community at a series of fun, informative workshops with games and activities for children with healthy eating and physical activity advice for families.
Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Green Policy and Leisure, Hounslow Council, said:
“We’ve been listening to Hounslow residents to find out what would make children and families more active. Over the summer, we captured the thoughts and ideas of residents at onsite public engagement events and through online questionnaires. We also received great sketch ideas from local school children.
We hope that the new spaces will help children to be more active and we look forward to seeing the ideas of the community come into fruition when we complete the improvements later in the year.”
Works began onsite in January 2018 and the council aims to complete works in spring 2018.
The design for Carville Hall North will creat a new path as well as a new entrance into the path.
